Sowing and Growing Guide

Atsi Yellow Sweet Pepper

Indoor Sowing

  • Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date.
  • Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds 1/4 inch deep, 2-3 seeds per cell.
  • Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 70-75°F.
  • Pepper seeds can take 14-21 days to germinate, so be patient.
  • Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, thin them to one per cell.
  • Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 4-6 inches tall and have been hardened off (gradually acclimated to outdoor conditions).

Outdoor Sowing

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden 2 weeks after the last expected frost date.
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
  • Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep and 18-24 inches apart in rows spaced 24-36 inches apart.
  • Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged.
  • Thin seedlings when they are 4-6 inches tall, leaving 18-24 inches between plants.

Growing

  • Atsi Yellow Sweet Peppers need full sun and warm temperatures (70-80°F) to thrive.
  • Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions, and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Support plants with stakes or cages to keep them from toppling over under the weight of the fruit.
  • Harvest peppers when they are full-sized and fully ripened to a deep yellow color.
  • Use scissors or a sharp knife to cut the peppers from the plant to avoid damaging the stems.
