Sowing and Growing Guide

Atsi Red Sweet Pepper

Indoor Sowing

  • Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date.
  • Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds 1/4 inch deep, 2-3 seeds per cell.
  • Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 70-80°F.
  • Seedlings should emerge in 7-10 days.
  • Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, thin them to one per cell.
  • Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before transplanting.

Outdoor Sowing

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden after the last expected frost date.
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
  • Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep and 2-3 inches apart in rows spaced 18-24 inches apart.
  • Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
  • Thin seedlings when they are 2-3 inches tall, leaving 12-18 inches between plants.

Growing

  • Atsi Red Sweet Peppers prefer well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter.
  • Water consistently to keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Support plants with stakes or cages to keep them upright as they grow.
  • Protect from pests, such as aphids and spider mites, by spraying with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  • Harvest peppers when they are fully ripe and have turned bright red.
