Sowing and Growing Guide
Pansy White Lady
Indoor Sowing
- Begin sowing Pansy White Lady seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area.
- Fill seed trays or small pots with a high-quality seed starting mix.
- Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil, pressing them down gently to ensure good contact with the soil.
- Mist the soil with water to settle the seeds.
- Cover the trays or pots with a plastic lid or a plastic wrap to create a mini-greenhouse effect.
- Place the containers in a bright location with indirect sunlight and maintain a temperature of around 60-65°F (15-18°C).
- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Seedlings should emerge in 10-14 days.
- Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, remove the cover and provide good air circulation.
- Transplant the seedlings into larger pots when they have grown a few inches tall and have a well-established root system.
- Harden off the young plants by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them into the garden.
Outdoor Sowing
- Pansy White Lady can also be directly sown outdoors in early spring or late summer, depending on your climate.
- Choose a well-draining location with partial to full sun exposure.
- Prepare the soil by amending it with compost to improve fertility and drainage.
- Sow the seeds on the soil surface, and gently press them down.
- Water the area thoroughly to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
- Maintain even soil moisture until germination occurs, usually within 10-14 days.
- Once seedlings have several true leaves, thin them to the desired spacing, typically 6-8 inches apart.
- Pansies are relatively cold-hardy and can tolerate light frosts, making them suitable for early spring and fall plantings.
Growing
- Provide consistent moisture to your Pansy White Lady plants, but avoid overwatering, as they don't like soggy soil.
- Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer every 4-6 weeks to promote healthy growth and abundant flowering.
- Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming.
- Pansies may benefit from a layer of mulch to conserve moisture and maintain even soil temperatures.
- Watch for common pests like aphids and slugs, and take appropriate measures to control them.
- Enjoy the delicate white blossoms and the beauty they bring to your garden or containers throughout the growing season.
