Sowing and Growing Guide
Beth Alpha F1 Cucumber
Indoor Sowing
- Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost date or when soil temperature reaches at least 65°F.
- Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds 1/2 inch deep, 2-3 seeds per cell.
- Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 70-85°F.
- Seedlings should emerge in 7-14 days.
- Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, thin them to one per cell.
- Transplant seedlings outdoors when they have at least 2-3 sets of true leaves and all danger of frost has passed.
Outdoor Sowing
- Sow seeds directly into the garden when soil temperature reaches at least 65°F and all danger of frost has passed.
- Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
- Sow seeds 1 inch deep and 3-4 inches apart in rows spaced 4-6 feet apart.
- Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
- Thin seedlings when they have developed their first true leaves, leaving 12-18 inches between plants.
Growing

- Water consistently to keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
- Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Train vines to climb a trellis or support to save space and prevent fruit from touching the ground.
- Harvest cucumbers when they are 4-6 inches long for best flavor and texture.
- Check plants daily for pests, such as cucumber beetles, and remove by hand or use organic pest control methods.
