Indoor Sowing
- Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date.
- Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in individual pots filled with well-draining soil.
- Keep the soil moist and warm (around 20°C).
- Once seedlings emerge, place them in a sunny location or under grow lights.
- Transplant seedlings outdoors once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up.
Outdoor Sowing
- Sow seeds directly into well-drained soil in a sunny location once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up (at least 10°C).
- Plant the seeds 1/2 inch deep and 1 inch apart, in rows spaced 12-18 inches apart.
- Water the soil after planting and keep it moist until the seedlings emerge.
Growing
- Thin seedlings to 3-4 inches apart once they have grown a few inches tall.
- Water the plants regularly, especially during dry spells.
- Fertilize the plants with a balanced fertilizer once a month.
- Harvest the roots when they are about 2-3 inches in diameter.
- The roots can be roasted, boiled, or used raw in salads.
