- Seedlings should emerge in 7-14 days.

- Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 4-6 inches tall and have at least two sets of true leaves, and after the last expected frost date.
Outdoor Sowing
- Sow seeds directly into the garden 2-4 weeks before the last expected frost date, or as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring.
- Choose a location with well-draining soil that receives full sun to partial shade.
- Sow seeds 1 inch deep and 2 inches apart in rows spaced 24-36 inches apart.
- Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
- Provide support for the plants to climb, such as a trellis or pea fence.
- Thin seedlings when they are 4-6 inches tall, leaving 4-6 inches between plants.
Growing
- Alderman peas prefer well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter.
- Water consistently to keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
- Fertilize once a month with a balanced fertilizer.
- Provide support for the plants to climb, such as a trellis or pea fence.
- Harvest peas when they are plump and sweet, but before they become hard and starchy.
- After harvesting, cut the plants off at ground level and leave the roots in the soil to decompose and add nutrients.
