Sowing and Growing Guide

Perfection Cucumber

Indoor Sowing

  • Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost date.
  • Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds 1/2 inch deep, one per cell.
  • Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 70-75°F.
  • Seedlings should emerge in 7-10 days.
  • Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, transplant them to larger pots.
  • Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 3-4 weeks old and have been hardened off to outdoor conditions.

Outdoor Sowing

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden after the last expected frost date.
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
  • Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep and 2-3 feet apart in rows spaced 5-6 feet apart.
  • Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
  • Thin seedlings when they are 3-4 inches tall, leaving 1-2 feet between plants.

Growing

  • Perfection cucumbers prefer well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter.
  • Water consistently to keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilize once a month with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Provide support for the vines to climb, such as a trellis or fence.
  • Harvest cucumbers when they are 6-8 inches long and have a bright green color.
  • Check plants daily for ripe cucumbers to prevent overripe fruits and to encourage continuous fruit production.
