Sowing and Growing Guide

Crystal Lemon Cucumber

Indoor Sowing

  • Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost date.
  • Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds 1/2 inch deep, 1-2 seeds per cell.
  • Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 70-75°F.
  • Seedlings should emerge in 7-10 days.
  • Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, thin them to one per cell.
  • Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7-10 days.
  • Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 3-4 inches tall and have at least two sets of true leaves.

Outdoor Sowing

  • Sow seeds directly into the garden 1-2 weeks after the last expected frost date.
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
  • Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep and 2-3 feet apart in rows spaced 3-4 feet apart.
  • Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
  • Thin seedlings when they are 3-4 inches tall, leaving 1 plant every 2-3 feet.

Growing

  • Crystal Lemon cucumbers prefer well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter.
  • Water consistently to keep soil evenly moist, especially during hot and dry weather.
  • Fertilize once a month with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Support vines with trellises or stakes to keep fruits off the ground and to make harvesting easier.
  • Harvest cucumbers when they are 3-4 inches long and have reached their full color.
  • Store harvested cucumbers in a cool, dry place, such as a refrigerator.
