Sowing and Growing Guide
Green Bush Courgette
Indoor Sowing:
- Sow seeds indoors in 7.5cm pots from mid-April to late May.
- Use good quality compost and sow the seeds 2.5cm deep.
- Keep the pots in a warm, sunny place or under grow lights at a temperature of around 18-21°C.
- Seedlings should emerge in 7-14 days.
- Once the seedlings have developed their second set of leaves, they can be transplanted into their final growing position.
Outdoor Sowing:
- Sow seeds outdoors in late May to early June when the soil has warmed up.
- Sow seeds 2.5cm deep in rows 90cm apart.
- Thin out the seedlings to 60cm apart.
- Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-draining soil.
Growing:
- Water regularly and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
- Feed every two weeks with a high potash fertiliser once the plant starts flowering.
- Harvest when the courgettes are about 10-15cm long.
- Regular harvesting will encourage the plant to produce more fruit.
- Check the plant for pests and diseases regularly, and take appropriate action if necessary.
