Sowing and Growing Guide
Igloo Cauliflower
Indoor Sowing
- Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area.
- Fill seed trays with seed starting mix and sow seeds ¼ inch deep, 2-3 seeds per cell.
- Keep the soil moist and at a consistent temperature of 60-70°F.
- Seedlings should emerge in 7-14 days.
- Once seedlings have developed their first true leaves, thin them to one per cell.
- Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 4-6 weeks old and have at least 2-3 true leaves.
Outdoor Sowing
- Sow seeds directly into the garden 2-4 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area.
- Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil that has been amended with compost.
- Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and 18-24 inches apart in rows spaced 24-36 inches apart.
- Keep the soil moist and weed-free.
- Thin seedlings when they are 4-6 inches tall, leaving 18-24 inches between plants.
Growing
- Igloo cauliflower prefers cool temperatures and consistent moisture.
- Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged.
- Fertilize every 3-4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Protect young plants from pests, such as cabbage worms and aphids, by covering with a floating row cover.
- Harvest cauliflower heads when they are firm and white, typically 60-70 days after transplanting.
- To keep the heads white, tie the outer leaves together over the top of the head.
