Sowing and Growing Guide

Early Nantes Organic Carrot

Indoor Sowing

  • Start seeds indoors in early spring, about 2-3 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area.
  • Fill a container with moist, well-draining soil and plant the seeds about 1/4 inch deep.
  • Keep the soil consistently moist and in a warm, sunny spot until the seedlings emerge.
  • Once the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, thin them to about 2-3 inches apart.
  • Transplant the seedlings outdoors when they are about 3-4 inches tall and the soil has warmed up.

Outdoor Sowing

  • Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring, about 2-3 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area.
  • Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil and loosen the top few inches of soil.
  • Plant the seeds about 1/4 inch deep and 1-2 inches apart.
  • Water the soil well and keep it consistently moist until the seedlings emerge.
  • Once the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, thin them to about 2-3 inches apart.

Growing

  • Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, throughout the growing season.
  • Fertilize the plants with a balanced fertilizer every few weeks.
  • Weed the area around the plants regularly to prevent competition for nutrients and water.
  • Harvest the carrots when they are about 3-4 inches long and the tops have started to push out of the soil.
