Cabbage Vertus
Indoor Sowing:
- Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with seed compost
- Keep in a bright, warm place, ideally with a temperature around 18-20°C
- Keep the compost moist, but not waterlogged
- Seedlings should emerge within 7-14 days
- Once they have 2-4 true leaves, transplant the seedlings into individual pots
- When the seedlings have grown to around 10cm tall, acclimatize them to outdoor conditions by gradually exposing them to outdoor temperatures and sunlight over a period of 7-10 days before transplanting them outside
Outdoor Sowing:
- Sow seeds directly into well-drained soil in late spring, once the soil has warmed up
- Sow seeds thinly and cover lightly with soil
- Thin out seedlings to around 20cm apart
- Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged
Growing:
- Keep the soil moist throughout the growing period
- Water regularly, especially during dry spells
- Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks
- Harvest the outer leaves as needed, leaving the inner leaves to continue growing
- For best flavor, harvest in the morning when the leaves are at their freshest
