Sowing and Growing Guide

Vertus 2 Lettuce

Indoor Sowing:

  • Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with seed compost
  • Keep in a bright, warm place, ideally with a temperature around 18-20°C
  • Keep the compost moist, but not waterlogged
  • Seedlings should emerge within 7-14 days
  • Once they have 2-4 true leaves, transplant the seedlings into individual pots
  • When the seedlings have grown to around 10cm tall, acclimatize them to outdoor conditions by gradually exposing them to outdoor temperatures and sunlight over a period of 7-10 days before transplanting them outside

Outdoor Sowing:

  • Sow seeds directly into well-drained soil in late spring, once the soil has warmed up
  • Sow seeds thinly and cover lightly with soil
  • Thin out seedlings to around 20cm apart
  • Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged

Growing:

  • Keep the soil moist throughout the growing period
  • Water regularly, especially during dry spells
  • Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks
  • Harvest the outer leaves as needed, leaving the inner leaves to continue growing
  • For best flavor, harvest in the morning when the leaves are at their freshest
