Dwarf French - Purple Teepee
Indoor Sowing
- Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost date.
- Use seed trays or small pots filled with a quality seed-starting mix.
- Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep, placing one seed per cell or pot.
- Water well and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Maintain a temperature of around 18-24°C for optimal germination.
- Seedlings should emerge in 7-10 days.
- Once seedlings are 7-10 cm tall and have at least two sets of true leaves, they can be hardened off before transplanting outdoors.
Outdoor Sowing
- Sow seeds directly into well-prepared soil after the last frost when temperatures are consistently above 10°C.
- Choose a sunny, sheltered location with well-draining, fertile soil.
- Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep and 10-15 cm apart in rows spaced 45 cm apart.
- Water the soil thoroughly after sowing and keep it consistently moist.
- Seedlings should emerge in 7-10 days.
- Thin the plants to maintain spacing as they grow.
Growing
- Dwarf French - Purple Teepee beans prefer full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.
- Water regularly, especially during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains moist but not soggy.
- Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases.
- No support is needed as this variety is a dwarf bush type.
- Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Harvest beans regularly when they are young and tender, around 15 cm long, to encourage continued production.
- For best flavor and texture, pick beans before they become tough.
